Skiatook Lake

Skiatook Lake is located just west of the City of Skiatook, Oklahoma. Gentle rolling hills of Blackjack and Post Oak interspersed with Tallgrass Prairie surround beautiful Skiatook Lake. The meandering shoreline is accentuated by steep picturesque bluffs which offer spectacular views for the recreation user. Boating, hiking, swimming, camping, picnicking as well as hunting and fishing are all popular activities at the lake. Whitetail deer, quail, rabbit, and squirrel are plentiful around the lake and some 8,000 acres are open to hunters. Sport fishing is also very popular on Skiatook Lake with a wide variety of fish including large mouth bass, small mouth bass, spotted bass, hybrid striped bass, walleye, black and white crappie, channel catfish, and several species of sunfish.

Osage Prairie Trail

The Osage Prairie Trail is located on the old Midland Valley Rail bed. This railroad was abandoned and through Vision 2025 monies, the trail was able to be developed. The Osage Prairie Trail is a rails to trails project that is 14.5 miles long and extends from downtown Tulsa, near the OSU campus to Highway 20 in Skiatook. A future expansion will extend the trail to Birch Lake in Osage County. It is a 10′ wide paved trail, including 8 pedestrian bridges, one of which was a renovated historical highway bridge. The trail has an easy grade since it was once a railroad corridor. Parking is available in Skiatook as well as at the OSU campus and in Sperry. Parking at Central Park in Skiatook features bike racks, water fountains, parking, restrooms (during season) and benches.

Skiatook Central Park

Skiatook residents enjoy multiple recreational opportunities, including Central Park, John Zink Park, Exchange Bank Park and the Skiatook Sports Complex. These parks offer amenities such as playgrounds, swimming pool, splash pad, picnic areas, baseball fields, football fields, soccer fields and tennis courts. The City of Skiatook prides itself on being a community that is involved with their youth and the parks department works hard to provide our community’s youth an outlet for outdoor activities. Central Park was completed in 2010 and there are many exciting plans for the parks of Skiatook in the works.

Skiatook Pool

The Skiatook community pool was opened in the 1950s, and provided swimming lessons to thousands of Skiatook children until 2001 when the pool was closed. The pool was completely rebuilt to include a wading area, water sprayers and a diving board. The new pool opened to the public the summer of 2007, and has been a popular family gathering place throughout the summer ever since. There is a lifeguard on duty at all times, and there is a concession stand for a cold drink or popsicle. During the summer, swim lessons are taught in the mornings before the pool is open to the public. The pool is available for rent for private parties and events. Marinas

The ideal place for fun, food, and lodging! Located just 25 minutes from downtown Tulsa, CrossTimbers Marina and Crystal Bay Marina are both on Skiatook Lake is the area’s preferred choice for quality, convenience and fun.

Camping

Stoney Ridge Campground located in Oklahoma, North of Tulsa, West of Skiatook, and near Skiatook Lake. They offer cabins with Heat/AC, full bath, and kitchenettes. Their full hook up RV sites are available year-round.

Twin Points Oklahoma Located on beautiful Skiatook Lake in northeast Oklahoma, Twin Points is the most recently constructed campground of its size in the region. This park has a nearby swim beach and boat ramp, and it is a favorite among hikers.

Tall Chief Cove Located on beautiful Skiatook Lake in northeast Oklahoma, Tall Chief Cove is one of the most popular campgrounds in the region. The campground has a variety of sites along the forested lake shore and visitors can enjoy boating, hiking, swimming, picnicking, kayaking and fishing.

Sky Diving

Skydive Airtight is a USPA Group Member skydiving facility located 15 miles north of Tulsa, OK at the Skiatook Municipal Airport. They offer three types skydive jumps and training for first time jumpers. Skydive Airtight is the only skydiving location in the area that offers spectacular views of gorgeous Skiatook terrain and the Downtown Tulsa Skyline.

Kihekah Steh PowWow

Head to Skiatook in July for the annual Kihekah Steh PowWow. This important Native American event will occur northwest of town and will feature a wide variety of traditional dancing and beautiful regalia. There will be gourd dancing nightly along with plenty of activities for kids like Junior Contests and Tiny Tots events. Browse handmade craft vendors or sample some of the delicious food available throughout the weekend. Bring a chair and enjoy the night of dancing. Closer to the event, you will be able to find more detailed information on the Osage Nation Facebook page.

Rodeos

Whether it is a Playday series, Barrel Race or an Open Rodeo, the SRUC offers several different events throughout the year for residents and visitors to watch and enjoy the sport of rodeo. A.T. Ferree Memorial Arena is located at the corner of State Highways 11 & 20 on the East side of Skiatook. The Skiatook Museum

The Skiatook Museum was designed to encourage the history & heritage of our city.

Located at 115 S. Broadway in Skiatook, the museum offers photographs and documents of the pioneer families, events and places of our wonderful city. The Skiatook Museum also features a micro-film reader which visitors use to research newspapers dating back to April 1905, when the first newspaper was published in Skiatook, Oklahoma.

The Healing Rock

The Healing Rock, also called the Tepee Rock, was originally located in the Hominy Creek bottoms. Throughout history, many Native Americans have believed in the stone’s ability to heal the sick and injured people brought to its location. You will find the trail head near the Skiatook Lake Corp of Engineer’s office, off of Lake Road.

Enjoy the beautiful, short hike from the trail head to The Healing Rock while you take in the beauty of Skiatook Lake.

Live Music

If you are looking for live Music, Skiatook is the place to be. Dubbed The Music Capital of Osage County, you can find live music most weekends, during the Summer and into the Fall.

During the weekends, you can find live music and karaoke at The Boars Nest, just West on Highway 20 towards Skiatook Lake.

Third Thursday in the Park takes place during the Summer months in Skiatook’s Central Park. You will find vendors, food trucks and live bands under the Gazebo. Pioneer Day Festival also brings in live acts to fill the stage all weekend long. In October, you will find a weekend long Bluegrass Festival at Skiatook’s Sports Complex. The Tallgrass Music Festival brings pickers and attendees from all over Oklahoma and surrounding states.

Skiatook Arts Center

The newest gem to the great city is the Skiatook Arts Center. Not only do the gallery pieces change out frequently, but you can purchase art from local artists to add to your collection.

Between viewing the collections on display, attending monthly art shows that showcase a different artist each time or signing up for weekly art classes, there is sure to be something for everyone to take in.
